The Shields Scholarship, named after former Head of School, Mike Shields and his wife Roie, was created to support BCD Kindergarten through 8th grade students who have achieved academic excellence, a commitment to community service and who have demonstrated financial need.
Today students planted the tomato seeds and the plants will be grown in various locations throughout campus until we sell them at the Shields Fun Run in May! All of the soil, seeds, and materials are being generously donated by the Cure Family. Watering schedules have been created and will include each class in the school on a rotation so that every student will participate in the growing process.
This initiative will connect community and curriculum for our students. As the year progresses, students will create decorative and personalized tags in Art and Innovation Lab to accompany the plants. Students will also create marketing materials for sale to be held on May 10th during the Shields Fun Run.
Thank you Ms. Wilson, Mrs. Cure, and all the others who helped to make this project possible.
