Where are they Now?

Daniel Pearson - Class of 2013

Where have you been since your BCD graduation?
After graduating from Boulder Country Day, I attended Fairview High School where I competed all four years in golf and basketball and ran track for one season. I was then lucky enough to accept a scholarship to play golf at the University of Nebraska. I am currently finishing my senior year at Nebraska and will graduate with a degree in finance.

What is your primary area of study or what job are you holding?
At Nebraska, I am studying finance in the College of Business for my undergrad. I have also become very involved in the athletic department which has opened my eyes to a working in sports administration. I am currently the president of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Nebraska which has allowed me to learn a lot about the landscape of college athletics. My passion for athletics, especially at the collegiate level, has me eager to pursue a masters degree and career in sports administration if I am not able to play golf professionally after college.

What special activities have been a part of your college experience such as sports, study abroad, research, etc and why is it of importance to you?
Deciding to go to school at Nebraska was definitely a change in landscape for me because at first, I did not know anyone at Nebraska other than my teammates. Division one athletics is definitely a very full-time job. Balancing workouts, class, practice, and travel for competitions quickly taught me the importance of managing my time and staying on top of academic work. Beyond golf, I have been involved with leadership groups within the athletic department through SAAC and Inner Circle (a career development group). Outside of athletics, I was selected for the Clifton Builders Program in the College of Business which is a management and entrepreneurship program started by Gallup.

What are the 1-2 things you learned at BCD, or that influenced you while at BCD that you carry with you today?
At BCD, I learned so much beyond the academic material. My experience at BCD prepared me for the challenges to come in high school, college, and life. At BCD, everyone is given the opportunity to represent their school in any extracurricular they are interested in, while still getting a great education. Coaches, teachers, and staff at BCD taught me how to be successful in both school and extracurricular activities. BCD also taught me the importance of leadership and how to become a better leader. Activities such as Model UN, competing in athletics, and even the process of taking down the American flag, all instilled leadership qualities in me that I do not think I would have gained if not for BCD.
