Walkout in support of safe and healthy school environments

Today BCD joined so many other schools and students as we held a space for our students and families to participate in a walkout in support of safe and healthy school environments.

The theme of the event was, “What’s Your 17?” What’s your 17? is a movement started by a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that asks people to do 17 good deeds in support of change. As students and parents gathered on the upper field they signed posters attached to the preschool fence with their ‘17’.

The crowd sung This Land Is Your Land and Country Roads and a student speech was given in honor of being kind and creating change. The event closed with 17 seconds of silence, one for each of the 17 persons lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14th.

We were honored to facilitate the voices of our students and community in their efforts to face the challenges of this moment in our nation’s history.
