Happiness is..finding the first good book in a series and knowing there are more to follow!
Discovering a love for reading is a joyous moment and is eventful leading up to that point.
As 4th graders developmentally we are reading to learn and no longer learning to read. We are discovering the different purposes for reading and how it supports our learning. We are also discovering a true love and joy for reading. The enjoyment and excitement is what I love most about 4th grade readers. When they find a book that gives them excitement and joy that they refuse to put it down, that is a momentous occasion for me. It means that we have possibly given the gift of life long reading. Along with my students I am finding my excitement and joy for reading. I have recently joined a book club and have truly found the lifelong reader in myself – what I once had back when I was a 4th grader.
