Founded on fundamentals. Driven by creativity.
The BCD Elementary School is a place of discovery, of challenge and support where tradition meets innovation and creativity. Our commitment to small class sizes (average 14-15 with a maximum of 18) ensures that teachers truly know and meet the needs of each student. We use researched-based methods to provide a sequential presentation of concepts and skills. In addition to the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, social studies and science taught by the homeroom teacher, elementary students also receive instruction in French, Spanish, technology, art, science lab, library, physical education, music and band. Latin is introduced to students in 4th grade and in 5th grade we group the students by ability in mathematics.

Character Education

Character education is essential in every student’s overall development. Students participate in guided discussions, activities, and role playing exercises that encourage them to treat others kindly. Philanthropy and community service projects connect students to various charitable organizations. Students actively participate in age-appropriate service projects.

Special Programs

Science Week: Each December BCD holds a school wide science fair. Students grade K-8 participate by doing an individual science experiment. All experiments are displayed in the gym during science week and are judged by scientists from the area. Science week includes special speakers and programs for students during the school day. A family science night features student experiments, speakers, and programs for the whole family. An assembly to celebrate Science Week is held on Friday and top experiments are recognized.

Musical Productions & Assemblies

Elementary students participate in musical performances, plays and assemblies held throughout the school year. Each student can expect to be on stage performing several times during the year. Each grade takes part in a musical performance where music teachers work with homeroom teachers preparing the events. Parents are always welcome.

Classroom Events

Throughout the school year each grade holds special events which are related to units of study. Students may present research and writing projects to each other, another class or grade level, or parents.
