The Real Star of the Talent Show was Bravery

Kath Courter, Preschool Head

BCD’s talent shows are – hands down – my favorite assemblies of the year. My only disappointment was that I always forget to bring a box of Kleenex…

I need it every time. The ability of our students show to get up on stage and be in the spot light – without noticeable fear – is what always surprises me about the talent show. I get kind of worked up while watching the students showcase their talents - mostly because I find the amazing amount of courage that the children display to be incredibly heartwarming. I feel so fortunate to be a part of such a talented community of students.

I love that we focus on helping our students to build a sense confidence and competence, that internal sense of “I am and I can… I can do this and even though I feel nervous it’s going to be okay…” Getting up on stage during our regular assemblies is easy compared to the talent show. During most of our assemblies, students are a part of a group. Chameleon characteristics give those who need it an opportunity to blend into the crowd.

Camouflage was nowhere in sight during today's talent show. Pure courage was all I could see.
