Kindergarteners read the book Whoever You Are by Mem Fox. This beautiful picture book explores and celebrates both difference and similarities among all kinds of people, displaying ultimate value for humankind.
Book excerpt:
“Their skin maybe be different from yours,
and their homes may be different from yours.
Their school may be different from yours,
and their lands may be different from yours.
Their lives may be different from yours,
and their words may be very different from yours.
But inside, their hearts as just like yours, whoever they are, wherever they are, all over the world.”
The book was used as a springboard to an art project highlighting differences in skin color. The class discussion continued around differences and similarities in actions, beliefs, and thinking.
