Where are they Now?

Charlie Mitelhaus - Class of 2011

Where have you been since your BCD graduation?
Following BCD graduation, I attended Niwot High, where I played four sports and graduated in 2015. In the Fall, I left for Dallas to attend SMU where I recently graduated in the Winter of 2019 with a journalism major and sport management minor.

What is your primary area of study or what job are you holding?
Currently, I'm working for Bisnow, the world's largest commercial real estate digital media and live events company where I'm the Midwest/Mountain Region Business Development Associate. There, I help inform, connect and advance the commercial real estate community to do more business. On the side, I founded a digital fitness consultancy in February, called Powerhaus Fitness, where I serve clients on five continents.

What special activities have been a part of your college experience such as sports, study abroad, research, etc and why is it of importance to you?
I was blessed to be able to take part in some incredible activities and experiences while attending SMU. There's too many to count and thinking about them makes me want to be back! From pledging KA my freshman year and making brothers for life to walking on to the SMU football team my sophomore year and earning scout team player of the week when we upset Houston while they were a top 15 team in the country, to meeting and getting to chat with President George W. Bush last fall. Studying abroad for five weeks in London while the World Cup was taking place probably takes the cake. I made some incredible new friends, studied under two incredible professors from SMU and got to see parts of the world I had never been to before. We even got to set foot inside of Stonehenge as a class which was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

What’s the one positive thing that has come out of COVID-19 isolation in their opinion?
The one positive thing that has come out of all this is that I'm working from home now and able to spend time with my family. I wouldn't be where I am today without everything they've done for me. They've been my number one fans and supporters since day one. Plus, it's always nice having my younger brother and best friend cook for me daily. The kid can cook.

What are the 1-2 things they learned at BCD, or that influenced them while at BCD, that they carry with them today?
The biggest takeaway from my time at BCD would have to be the fact that effective organization makes the biggest difference. It doesn't matter if I'm crafting a proposal for a potential client, customizing a training plan, or even planning out my workflow for the day, staying organized and on top of everything is critical.
