Our Specials curriculum invites students to explore education outside their homeroom through enriching subjects, such as world language (French, Spanish and Latin), art, music (including band or choir starting in 4th grade), science lab, library time, physical education and technology.

The Arts

The BCD Fine Arts team believes that education in the arts transforms life from black and white to vibrant color that awakens the senses and fuels creative energy. Our fine arts goal is to empower students with the tools to draw out those parts of themselves that there are no words to express. Visual arts, music, and theater provide opportunities to explore, invent, improvise, and reflect as students find their individual path to creativity. Through creating and performing, BCD students develop abstract thinking, aesthetic valuation, and the ability to analyze music, art, and theatrical performances. Skill is developed over time with material that is developmentally appropriate; and when preparation meets opportunity, creativity happens.

Technology

Our goal is to graduate technologically literate 21st century leaders who capably balance their human creativity with the efficiency and precision of current technologies.  We continually invest in technology infrastructure and computer resources to ensure our students have anytime, anywhere access to the world supporting authentic and engaging experiences both in the classroom and beyond.

World Language

The inclusion of world language instruction at all BCD grade levels demonstrates our commitment to developing communication skills in all students. As students acquire communication skills in world languages and knowledge of other cultures, they gain perspective of their own language and culture. The difference in ways of speaking and thinking make learning world languages a valuable part of our program.

Physical and Health Education

Physical Education is provided for grades kindergarten through eighth at Boulder Country Day. BCD is firmly committed to the philosophy of "sound body, sound mind". The development of the body and the development of the mind go hand in hand. Cognitive development is enhanced when balanced with a healthy lifestyle. The PE program is geared to inspire young adults to take interest in their health and physical fitness. It is designed with the idea of developing the whole child.
