I have worked in the St. Vrain Valley School District for the past nine years and have several years of experience working with children preschool – third grade. The past four years I have taught kindergarten and first grade at Imagine Charter School. In addition, I have worked at the Neighborhood Learning Center of Niwot preschool. I cherish my variety of experiences in early childhood education, as it has given me a window into where your child is going or “growing” and the foundational skills they need to be joyful and successful.
I am a mother of two amazing daughters, Annie, who is entering 11th grade at Boulder High School and plays soccer, and Mackenzie, who is a junior at CSU in Ft. Collins and double-majoring in fashion merchandising and finance. I am married to my husband, Mark, and have one fluffy dog, Filbert. We have lived in cute, little Niwot for 20 years. I was born in Corning, New York, but moved to beautiful Aspen, Colorado, as a child. I love our changing seasons, reading, organizing, country music, and playing board games.
I started working as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher in a bilingual school in Venezuela many years ago. After teaching for 2 years, I got married and moved to Colorado. Our initial plan was for my husband to get his Master’s Degree from CU Boulder and go back to Venezuela, but we fell in love with Colorado and decided to stay. We have 4 boys, Felipe, Diego, Matias and Nicolas, they all have attended BCD since preschool. Our oldest is now at Niwot High School. I enjoy spending time with my family and go to all of our boys’ baseball games!
Honor Engle joined Boulder Country Day’s faculty in 2010. However, she has been a part of BCD’s community as a parent of two children since 2004. Honor has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and several years of experience caring for young children. In her free time (or as Honor says, “when she is not doing laundry or running the vacuum”), she loves to spend time with her two boys, Charlie and Christopher, and her husband, Doug. Honor also loves to do needle point, read books, listen to the Beetles (her all-time favorite band), and spend quiet, peaceful time at their family cabin on Lake Champlain. An interesting side note about Honor is that after college she went on a month long road trip with a couple of girlfriends. Together they drove from Washington, D.C. to British Columbia. The highlight of the trip for Honor was spending time in Glacier National Park.
I have been teaching in the USA since 1995, including teaching PK in CA, FL and CO. I also worked at a residential summer camp in NY for 11 years. My husband and I love to watch football in our free time – both our son's (Connor) and the Florida Gators games! I love to hike, garden, read and bird watch. I also have a daughter (Libby) who keeps me busy with art projects and make-overs!
I have taught in independent schools for 13 years in Connecticut and San Francisco, and have run my own summer camps for 25 years, 13 of those in Montana. My family and I moved to Boulder in 2011. I love to ski, bike, hike and camp. In addition to raising my kids, my passion has been working with families in need by connecting them to community programs, services and resources.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time at the dog park with my greyhound, Sara. I also love yoga, reading (especially non-fiction), listening to podcasts, and baking. In addition, I enjoy running – A LOT! I ran in college for the University of Toledo and have been a professional runner since 2012. I am a NCAA All American, a 4-time MAC Champion, and I was a member of Team USA at the 2012 Chiba Ekiden World Relay Competition (bronze medal winner). I also competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier and am hoping to qualify for the 2020 Olympic trials.
I spent the 2015-2016 school year working as a Teacher Intern in the Kindergarten classrooms at BCD, in addition to working in Mrs. Hawkes Pre-K class as a Preschool Assistant and an After Care teacher. Prior to working at BCD, I held internships in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences field working with Preschool children. I am currently working on my masters in Education and Human Development. In my spare time I love practicing yoga, skiing, hiking and anything fashion related!
I have been managing After School Programs and Summer Day Camps for eleven years in Colorado and Hawai’i. I ran After School Programs for Kama’aina Kids at St. Theresa School as well as Hokulani Elementary, and coordinated Summer Day Camps at various island locations including the Bishop Museum. Before coming to Boulder Country Day, I directed the Before/After School Program at High Peaks/BCSIS Elementary, as well as “Fun in The Sun” Summer Day Camps for the YMCA of Boulder Valley. I enjoy sewing, live music, dancing, camping, hiking, gardening, snorkeling, traveling, and creating art.
I am a Colorado native. I grew up in Lakewood, where my parents (both retired teachers) still live. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a BA in Elementary Education. My prior experience includes 9 years of teaching at the lower elementary level. Additionally, last year, I earned an endorsement in Early Childhood Education. My husband Doug and I have one daughter, Grace, who attends BCD. During my years as a stay-at-home mom, after Grace was born, my husband and I founded and continue to run the nonprofit Boulder StoryHealers which produces the play A Day for Grace, written to raise awareness of suicide prevention improving mental health. Doug and I spend most of our free time with our daughter Grace. We spend time together skiing, biking, camping, playing, and enjoying time with our dog Dusty.
