Equity and Inclusion
Creating inclusion and belonging is a core value of BCD. We believe that learning from the perspectives of others opens our minds and hearts and that we build empathy by showing respect and interest in others’ unique contributions.
Our Intention
To cultivate a diverse and inclusive community that honors and celebrates difference through dialog and engagement; - To embody a wide range of multicultural perspectives in the curriculum through practice and materials;
- To commit to further diversifying the community of families, faculty and staff through active recruitment of a diverse student body, faculty, staff, and administrators; and
- To be informed by the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) Principles of Good Practices - Equity and Justice
Our Commitment to Inclusivity
Boulder Country Day School recognizes and values all forms of diversity and is dedicated to providing an inclusive environment which honors each member for their individual differences, experiences, and strengths. Keynote Speaker: Marina LaGrave
Marina LaGrave works with Boulder County’s Office of Sustainability, Climate Action and Resilience (OSCAR). She is the founder of Colorado Language Access and Cultural Experts (CLACE) and Explorando Senderos de Boulder. Her work focuses on language access, diversity and inclusion, community engagement, intercultural program development, and cross-cultural communication.
LaGrave founded Explorando Senderos de Boulder in late 2020, during the COVID-19 crisis, to support Latinx community members facing both physical and mental health challenges during the pandemic.
Guest Speaker: Gavin Winters
Gavin Winters is the student founder of the Day of Affinity initiative. The first BIPOC Day of Affinity was held in 2023 as part of his 8th Grade Capstone Project at Boulder Country Day School. His goal was to create a space where BIPOC students could build connections and find support in a safe, empowering environment. Gavin is currently a junior at Boulder High School.
Boulder Country Day School is proud to support this student-driven initiative, which reflects the school’s commitment to fostering inclusion, belonging, and empathetic citizenship. By creating space for meaningful connection and shared experiences, the Day of Affinity empowers students to better understand themselves, support one another, and confidently engage with the world around them—both now and in the future.
