Community Support and Belonging

BCD's commitment to community and belonging guides all aspects of our approach to education from academic support and counseling to health services and equity and identity. We see the mission of our school as one seamless, integrated system, built on connection, aligned with our values, and creates the conditions for every learner to thrive.

At its core, this approach is about belonging. It declares that our mission includes a commitment to students, families, and educators and paves the way for a unified and more integrated approach. It ensures that each person in our community knows: I matter here. Whether it’s a parent seeking clarity on how to support their child, a teacher needing professional nourishment, or a student finding their voice and identity, this approach of support affirms that everyone has a place and is held with care. When we all come together with students at the center, we create the conditions necessary for those students to become adaptable, empathetic, and engaged global citizens.

Our integrated support systems are intentionally designed to meet diverse needs, nurture authentic relationships and empower every individual- student, families, faculty and staff to find what resonates with their unique identifies and needs.

When connection is nurtured, belonging takes root—and begins to take life in the everyday experiences of our community. It shows up in voices being heard, identities being affirmed, and relationships being built. When belonging comes to life, our whole community thrives.

Our community offerings are designed to reflect and celebrate the diverse identities within our school. From our Neuroinclusion Network (NIN), which uplifts and supports neurodiverse learners and families, to our Affinity Spaces, which provide safe, identity-affirming environments for sharing experiences and solidarity, every offering is grounded in inclusion. Our annual Day of Affinity deepens this commitment, creating spaces for reflection, celebration, and meaningful dialogue across difference. Through these and other experiences, we don't just talk about belonging, we live it!
