During the week of March 9th – 13th, BCD will welcome visiting artists and musicians, as well as, celebrate the amazing works of their own student body. “We were looking to construct a unique opportunity for our students to do hands-on work with professional artists and musicians in the hopes that students will connect with individuals doing real work in the world of performing and visual arts”, says Ryan Parker, Fine Arts Coordinator at the school.
Visiting artist will include both Boulder-based contemporary painter Will Day (
www.willdayart.com) and innovative musical ensemble Kutandara (
www.kutandara.com), as well as, accomplished violinist and all around musician, Jason Crosby (
www. jasoncrosby.net). Will Day will share his painting methods, techniques and inspirations with students. Kutandara will provide instruction in music from southern Africa on Zimbabwean-style instruments. And Mr. Crosby will look to inspire on various instruments and share his years of experience playing with such famous groups as The Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, The Meters, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Pete Seeger, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Dave Mathews.
A mid-week student art show will celebrate and highlight the artistic works BCD students have accomplished during the school year with accompaniment by student musicians. The week will wrap with an all-school arts assembly.

http://youtu.be/24sK8jZL0SsThe Council for Art Education promotes Youth Art Month to emphasizes the value of art education for children of all ages; recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences that are not possible in other curriculum subjects, recognizing art education as a viable factor in the total education curricula that develops citizens of a global society, and directing attention to the value of art education for divergent and critical thinking. Boulder Country Day embraces those aims and ideals and thus has chosen to commit a whole week to focusing on and celebrating The Arts. As explained by Ryan Parker, “BCD students have abundant opportunities to explore artistic interests at BCD on a daily basis—BCD Fine Arts Week will provide further depth of experience for our students.“
