What does it mean to be a BCD student? BCD Students Are... Confident.
Helping students develop a sense of self or “sense of me” is at the heart of the BCD education.

“BCD looks at each child in terms of the whole person, not just the academic piece. We also give them the social skills they need to prepare them to succeed in life.”– BCD teacher
Community Service
"From those to whom much is given, much is expected".
BCD has long been known as a generous and supportive community. In an effort to strengthen our culture of giving and to coordinate school wide efforts, BCD is partnering with Community Food Share and the various agencies it serves. The school's emphasis is on service with several opportunities for families to volunteer together.
Monthly targeted food drives:
One of the following food items will be collected each month: Peanut butter, canned soup, juices, canned fruit, tuna, stew/chili, pasta sauces, cereal/oatmeal, and turkeys. The turkeys will be collected during November and will be given directly to the Sister Carmen Center, a member agency. The other food drive items will go to Community Food Share (CFS) which will disseminate the food among its 63 member agencies.
The teachers at each grade level will choose a month and that grade will be responsible for the advertising, collection, and the boxing of the particular food for that month. CFS will come and pick the boxes up. The grade that collects the turkeys will need some parent volunteers to help deliver them to the Sister Carmen Center.
BCD night at CFS... the 4th Tuesday of each month from 3:30 - 6:30
Families (parents and children ages 7 and older) can volunteer at CFS in the warehouse helping sort, bag food, etc. An hour, or hour and half, commitment is requested at any time during the 3:30 - 6:30 time slot.
Plastic Bags
The preschool will collect plastic bags during the whole year as CFS has a real need for them. The students will collect the bags, inspect them for holes, make sure they were empty (no receipts etc), flatten/smooth them out, and lay them flat in boxes. Once boxes were filled, volunteer families can deliver them.
Field Trips
Service field trip opportunities for classes will be available during the school year. Parent volunteer drivers will be needed.
Middle School students are required to do 20 hours of community service outside of school.
