BIRTH DATE ENTRY REQUIREMENT

We use the Boulder Valley School District September 30th date as a "guide" to make appropriate admissions decisions and determine if a child is ready for our programs.

For admission into our preschool program (3-year-olds) we are - in general - looking for children to be three by September 30th of the year of entry, or turn three within a few weeks of that date. We know that children develop at different rates and birth dates alone do not always determine developmental readiness. If a child applies who has a birth date within a few weeks of September 30th, we will we invite a family to bring their child in to meet with our Preschool Director for an informal assessment. However, this assessment appointment does not ensure enrollment acceptance into the school.

A child's birth date is only one of the factors the admissions committee takes into consideration when making an admission decision. Careful thought and consideration is taken with all candidates.

It is sometimes recommended, for a child with a younger birthday, to have a "gift of a year" and remain in the preschool another year before entering our kindergarten program.

For Kindergarten admissions we again follow the September 30th date as a guide and younger applicants are assessed to determine readiness. Furthermore, we assess all applicants to BCD who are not already enrolled in BCD's pre-kindergarten program.
